Colorado Division of Water Resources | Arkansas River Decision Support System

Project Summary
​Beginning in 1992, the Colorado Water Conservation Board and Division of Water Resources embarked on an effort to establish a common and accepted framework of information and tools to help facilitate informed decision-making in water resources planning in the State of Colorado.

DDS provided support for the Spatial System Integration (i.e., GIS) component of the Arkansas River DSS (ArkDSS) under  Subtask 1.2 – Historical Aerial Photos and Irrigated Acreage Snapshots. 

At least five historical irrigated acreage snapshots for Division 2 was created, including irrigated areas, water supply, and major crop types. Snapshot years for data collection was 1954, 1963, 1970, 1985, and 1998.  Mapping will be accomplished using the master irrigated parcel dataset from DWR, satellite imagery, historical maps, aerial photography, and applicable GIS data and agricultural statistics.

Deliverables

​​GIS data, historical aerial imagery, and develop shared web map site that is available to ArkDSS team members and other authorized stakeholders (e.g., ditch company staff).  ArkDSS Map Viewer.
