U.S. Geological Survey | Aeromagnetic Map Vectorization

Project Summary
The U.S. Geological Survey contracted Digital Data Services, Inc. (DDS) with multiple projects between 2005 and 2010 to vectorize aeromagnetic maps. The objective of the projects was to provide digital GIS files of existing aeromagnetic fields and flight paths for analysis and to determine the remaining areas to collect.

DDS obtained the aeromagnetic surveys and scanned them in color at 400 dpi. Next, the surveys were georeferenced into a custom UTM projection to minimize distortion during the rubber-sheeting process. The maps were then vectorized and attributed with survey values. In addition to shapefiles, the data was also provided in ASCII .xyz files for analysis in a proprietary software package.
